I heard about a good resource today, for providers that might want added information about perinatal mental health; diagnosis and treatment of depression and anxiety disorders during pregnancy and postpartum.   The University of Illinois Department of Psychiatry has a Healthcare Provider Consultation Line Service, by phone and in written format.

There’s also a page for lay people, with information and (Illinois) links.

There’s a new postpartum support group on Oahu, Tuesday evenings in Hawaii Kai, twice a month.  Contact PPD Support HI for more information.

This brings a much needed support to women who perhpas work outside the home during the day, live between town and Kailua, or prefer the evening option.  Word has it from one of the participants that it is terrific and that the group facilitator, Caroline,  is warm and wonderful.  The mom sounded like she’d found a whole new lease on life when she talked about it a day later.  I wish I could record the excitement in her voice and share it with you!
